SPE Honors 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner at 32nd Automotive Awards Night
TROY, Mich. [November 4, 2002] At the 32nd-Annual SPE Automotive Awards Night, DaimlerChrysler Corporation Senior Vice President Bernard I. Robertson was honored with the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award for his numerous accomplishments in promoting innovative automotive design.
The SPE Automotive Divisions Automotive Awards Night is the largest and most prestigious engineering awards event of its kind and is considered to be one of the auto industrys premier recognition events. This years theme was "Plastics: Back to the Future," and the event was held on November 18th at Burton Manor in Livonia, Mich.
Bernard Robertson is currently Senior Vice President Engineering Technologies and Regulatory Affairs, responsible for all Chrysler Development System and Vehicle Engineering Operations, Technical Computing Operations, advanced research, proving grounds and testing programs, and Chrysler Groups participation in the government-industry FreedomCAR program.
For more than 35 years, Robertson has worked for DaimlerChrysler, joining the former Chrysler Corporation in England in 1965. He has held positions with the company in Vehicle Emissions, Manufacturing and Assembly, Product Planning, Brand Management, and Product Development. He has previously served as Vice President - Jeep&Mac226; & Truck Engineering and General Manager Jeep/Truck Operations; General Manager Jeep & Truck Engineering; and Director - Product Strategy Planning.
Robertson is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK), a Chartered Engineer (UK), and a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is an aviation enthusiast who holds a private pilots license and owns two aircraft.
Additionally, Robertson earned his Masters Degree in Mechanical Sciences from Cambridge University in England. Among other advanced degrees, he holds an MBA from Michigan State University.
"The increasing contribution of plastics to the production of safe, efficient vehicles with innovative designs and high customer appeal has been one of the most important developments in the years that I have been involved with the automotive industry," Robertson said.

In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, a number of other awards will be given, including the Hall of Fame award and the Grand Award. They symbolize pioneering contributions of automotive engineers in one of the largest and most demanding industries for plastics. More than 1,000 automotive engineers, executives, and their guests are expected to attend this years event. As is customary, proceeds raised from the event will be used to fund SPE educational efforts and technical seminars, which will help to secure the role of plastics in the advancement of the automobile.
