11 a.m. Officials from Knott's Berry Farm contacted us to revise their original statement that Wipe Out's closure was voluntary. After checking with other park workers they determined state officials had asked them to shut down it down.
6/10/02
7 p.m. The story originally said a similar ride operated at a Riverside amusement park. However, that park no longer has that ride.
5:30 p.m. Additions to text were inserted to make clear that the Starfish ride, not the Wipe Out, was currently under inspection by state officials.
