Dr. Kenya is a health disparities research scholar supported by the National Institutes of Health. Since completing her graduate work at Columbia University and her NIH postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Kenya has focused on HIV risk, obesity, and immigration issues linked to preventable health problems among women of color.


 
 

With active studies in California, New York, and the Caribbean, Dr. Kenya investigates links between immigration and health risks using academic methods as well as social science techniques. As a published author in peer reviewed American journals and a health columnist contributing regularly to three different Caribbean news sources, Dr. Kenya is currently focused on utilizing multimedia avenues to educate lay populations about relevant health problems and preventive health behaviors.

Dr. Kenya holds faculty appointments at New York University and the University of California, Berkeley. Last year, Dr. Kenya collaborated with her medical students to form the 'Students for Safe Sex' educational group which provides culture specific sexual risk reduction public service announcements (PSAs).
